The research activities performed at Rush require advance approval from the committees and boards charged with the overseeing the safety and protection of:

  • Study & Laboratory Staff
  • Study Participants (both human and animal)
  • Patients & Visitors
  • Rush Employees
  • The Environment
  • Research-generated Data
  • Rush Property

The Biohazard Committee (BHZD), Dual use Research of Concern Committee (DURC), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Institutional Review Board (IRB), and Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) are active groups responsible for reviewing and approving Rush research activities that fall within their purview and area(s) of oversight/expertise.
